We loved hearing that the UK is a nation of dog lover's at heart - with getting a dog being #29 on the bucket list. What was interesting to see is getting a cat or another animal was not on the list, therefore perhaps showing the commitment getting a dog takes and that it is more of a desire as you move on through life and can offer the commitment it takes to own a dog.
What age do most people get a dog?
According to the survey, when we hit 30 we start to tick more things off our bucket list, with a focus on doing the things that matter most to us in life. Whether that be family, travel or pets - of course, is all dependent on the individual.
The findings emerged that 59% tend to stay in their comfort zone, whilst just 30% considered themselves to be someone who seizes the day.
Getting a dog is, of course, a life-changing time, with you having to take responsibility for its well-being from then on. Whilst some may consider it staying in their comfort zone if used to animals, others may find it a big change to their homes.
How can I get a dog?
Dogs can either be bought as a puppy from a certified breeder or adopted. We of course always love to see dogs who don't have a home find their new families, so looking at animal charities for rehoming such as Battersea dogs home is a great place to start. If they don't have the dog for you, they might be able to point you in another direction to continue your search.
Remember... a dog is for life, not just for Christmas. Although we may want a dog in our lives it's always important to ask yourself if you can look after it properly from here on out.
